The 20th annual All-Star Event was held at Troy University June 11 – 13, 2019. 30 colleges from Alabama turned out to evaluate the 120 underclassmen baseball players from across the state during the two days of baseball workouts and games. The six teams of twenty players (3 from the north half of the state and 3 from the south half of the state) were selected during the May 28 – 30 underclassmen regional workouts held throughout the state at high school and college baseball fields. Each All-Star Team had a Community College Coach and High School Coach from the state as their coaches.
On Tuesday June 11 the players and their parents and coaches involved in the event attended a general assembly session and banquet, before the Wednesday and Thursday of team workouts and games. The players and their parents heard talks on “Arm Care” from Mike Ellis, Physical Therapist, “Keys to Being Successful in the Classroom and on the Field of Play” by Lou Thornton, former major league player and former college instructor, and on the “Role of a Husband and Father” by Phillip Morgan, a former college baseball player and coach and current Baptist Minister. At the banquet that evening parents and players listened to academic and athletic talks by an NCAA Compliance Officer, Division I, II and III Coaches and an NAIA and Community College Coach. Very informative session for the players and their parents.
Wednesday consisted of on-field batting practice for the teams and a round of infield/outfield before their first game for the college coaches to evaluate the players, then Thursday was games only.
